It’s taken over a year to get to it, but we’re so excited to share Shruti and Tony’s color-drenched Half Moon Bay wedding on the blog today. Shooting a Hindu wedding is always a treat - the intimacy and ritual of the ceremony is a joy to capture and we are, admittedly, in love with vibrant color!

The two of us are hardcore nerds (we’re talking many years of D&D here), so when Hannah and Stephen started describing their geeky wedding plans in our first meeting, we knew we would get along famously. Their nerdtastic autumn River Mill wedding did NOT disappoint!

When Betsy and Sonny called to tell us they were looking for a photographer for their laid-back San Francisco wedding - at Tank 18, with arcade games after the ceremony - we knew it was a perfect fit. Especially when they mentioned that to avoid dealing with SF traffic, they’d decided to charter a bus!

I doubt we’ve ever shot a wedding with a dance floor as rowdy as Connie and Jesse’s country wedding in Livingston! The vibe of the Modesto Gun Club wedding venue was perfect for this cowboy-boot-and-jeans event, from the cabins the wedding parties got ready in to the grassy ceremony site to the taxidermied animals. There’s no doubt about it: this day was just ridiculously fun to shoot. It was a wedding photojournalist photographer’s dream - from the moment everyone piled into the pickup of a truck to take portraits to the bonfire at the end, we knew we were part of something special. There were endless emotional and hilarious candid moments to document.

There is way too much to write here, so I’ll keep it short: Lindsey is our niece. We’ve watched her grow up, watched her meet Eddie - since their wedding at Grace Vineyards in Galt, we’ve watched them have a baby together. The photos in this set are incredibly personal and meaningful and it was emotional just to put this post together. There are so many moments in here to love and to choke up over - joy, grief, letting go. We love these two so much. We’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Sometimes as photographers, we get the incredible pleasure of getting to know our clients. Sometimes that’s just because a lot of meetings and conversations go into wedding planning and wedding photography and we just… click (I’m so sorry). Sometimes it’s because we work with them over many years as they keep coming back for family photo sessions or employee headshots (looking at you, Grimbleby Coleman :)). And sometimes, maybe only once in a career, we get clients like Kate & Jon.

Justin and I are heading back to Pema Osel Ling Retreat Center for another wedding tomorrow, so I thought it was time for a blog post about Jacques and Walter’s incredible wedding day last summer. I recently wrote a long piece for them. magazine about their nuptials that you can read here, if you’re so inclined, but I’ll keep this brief: this wedding moved me, not just because these two are friends of ours, and not just because marriage equality has only been legal for three years. They are a perfect match. Their families and friends knew it, too, and the atmosphere of this wedding was electric, the details and the styling were impeccable, the whole thing was wonderful and magical and adjectives upon adjectives upon adjectives. I’m talking custom-made blue suits, polka dot bow ties, a Boy Scout camp-turned-Tibetan Buddhist retreat-turned wedding venue, Golden Girls divinity candles. I’m so excited to go back to Pema Osel Ling this weekend to experience the redwoods and the stars and the wild quail all over again, and I’m thrilled to share these pictures of Jacques and Walter’s wedding.

As completely unabashed nerds ourselves (I mean, we named our children after characters from The Princess Bride and Doctor Who), I say this with all affection and authority: Geneva and Nicholas’ wedding was geek paradise. There were board games, word games, a Super Nintendo, a photobooth where guests could dress up like the Mario Brothers. We even spotted a photo of the bride and groom in Mario and Luigi cosplay! And through the whole wedding, Geneva, Nicholas and their guests exhibited this unabashed sense of play, which is really the hallmark of the true nerd. It also makes for a rockin’ party.
Read MoreLisa + Paul's Joyous Mountaintop Wedding // Anvil Ranch and Vineyard // Annapolis, CA
It’s hard to capture just how serene Anvil Ranch and Vineyard is as a venue. It’s certainly the most remote place we’ve shot, tucked on top of a mountain as it is, no cities or even other properties for miles. We were last there a few years ago and it was a joy to get asked to go back for Lisa and Paul’s nuptials. Anvil Ranch, which is set up to house dozens of people, is the sort of wedding venue you only pick when you’re super tight with your family and friends, since it’s so remote that you’re stuck with them for the weekend. Lisa and Paul were no exception in that regard – the laughter and tears were flowing from their guests all day and night.

If you really squint, you can pretend that this blog post about Bella + Forrest’s bohemian backyard wedding is a celebration of their first anniversary, and not that we’re literally a year behind on blog posts. Part of the reason we’re so behind is that we’re slammed with work, but part of it is that there were so many original and touching details at this wedding that it was hard to know where to start.
At our first meeting, Bella and Forrest (maybe the sweetest High School Sweethearts we’ve ever met) described their wedding vision as a “Mumford and Sons music video.” The groom and groomsmen wore mismatched blue suits and suspenders and vintage floral ties, the bride wore a cream dress with crochet lace details and her bridesmaids were in shades of blue with even more lace. The couple, who are just as over-the-moon for each other as these photos suggest, were married under a giant oak tree in Bella’s mother’s backyard, surrounded by their closest family and friends, who danced and laughed and ate wood-fired pizza into the night.
