I thought when I photographed Robyn and Michael's wedding last year that I'd never get a chance to capture a larger height difference than their nearly foot and a half disparity. Boy was I wrong! Monica and Troy may have to get creative to look one another in the eyes - Monica even stood on a step at the altar to lessen the height difference - but they don't have any problems seeing eye-to-eye. You can tell by the way they look at each other, as in the picture above: even after years of being together, they're beaming like kids in a candy store on their wedding day.
Monica and Troy's wedding at the River's Edge Restaurant in Knights Ferry was a small affair with just family and a few friends in attendance, but it was filled with as much affection, tenderness and love as any large wedding I've had the privilege to capture. It's hard to beat Knights Ferry for gorgeous views, and this venue is no exception - the river ran right behind the ceremony site, reflecting the trees like a glassy green mirror and granting the couple a few unintentional guests riding by in kayaks. Though the late summer day was hot, the river combined with the misters on the River's Edge patio kept everything bearable as well as beautiful.
I was touched by how much of a family affair the day was. Monica's teenagers walked her down the aisle and she, the kids and Troy took part in a family candle-lighting ceremony. Troy and Monica both had family members give readings during the ceremony and there was so much hugging going on afterwards that it was a challenge to capture everyone! There were so many great moments, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be Monica's son serenading the newly-married couple with his trumpet. Thank you, Monica and Troy, for letting me be a part of such an amazing day. Here's to many more happy ones in the future!
