For the past year, we've had the pleasure of shooting cast photos for The Prospect Theater Project, a popular performing arts venue in downtown Modesto. These shoots always pose interesting challenges - the photographs need to showcase the faces and characters of between ten and twenty actors and they need to be shot in a relatively short period of time, usually between scenes at rehearsals.
Prospect opens their 2014-2015 fall season this month with Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, directed by Jack Souza. Our lighting scheme for the cast photos was inspired by Roman sculpture, specifically ancient Roman busts, so we went for the gritty, almost-direct light one would see inside the display case at a museum. The goal was to play up the stories in the faces of the actors - how do you think we did?
If you're in the Modesto area and are looking for dramatic date night fare, don't miss this show. We've seen the rehearsals and we can promise that the play will be as captivating as it is bloody! Julius Caesar opens on September 26 and runs through October 12, so there are plenty of chances to see it. You can see the full calendar here.
